Bathing your dog gives you a good opportunity to inspect for any fleas, ticks or skin irritations. By bathing your dog you will soothe his skin if he has any allergies and has been scratching.

Cleaning your dog’s teeth

It is important to keep your dogs teeth clean because they could end up with gum disease. You dog will have bad breath and their teeth can weaken and might fall out. Your dog could become malnourished because he cannot eat properly. It is possible for your dog to ingest bacteria if their mouths are unclean resulting in possible illness.

Cleaning your dog’s ears

Keeping your dogs ears clean can prevent chronic ear infections. Because the ear canals are dark and warm it is easy for bacteria, viruses and yeast to grow. Cleaning your dog’s ears once a week can prevent the growth, avoiding any potential ear problems.

Trimming your dog’s nails

Regular nail trims will prevent the vein growing into the nail. The vein may grow so far into the nail that you will not be able to cut your dogs nails. Long nails can be painful for your dog as they can break, bleed a lot and lead to infection.

So as you can see there are many health risks associated with dogs that are not groomed. A clean, well groomed dog will feel more comfortable and be less prone to disease or infection. The importance of dog grooming should not be underestimated as the risk of disease is much higher in pets that are not groomed regularly.
